Therodore Roosevelt
>.
Occupation:
Leader of the Rough Riders, Vice-President, and President

Position on the Issue:
I am all for imperialism of the American foreign policy. I am for annexation of the Philipines.

Interest in the Issue:
I believe that we need to keep European powers out of active involvement in the Western Hemisphere. I also believe that stronger nations need to bestow the rewards of their civilization upon weaker nations. Isolationism is lazy and cowardly. Imperialism is strong and ambitous, it isn't greedy but courageous. "We do not admire the man of the timid peace. We admire the man who embodies victorious efforts." The Filipinos are not ready to have full independence, they are not strong enough and they need our guidance. "I would say that when they [the Filipinos] are fit to walk alone, they should walk alone, but I would not pledge myself as to a definite date for giving them independence..."
